2014
Linnaean Classification: Eukarya, Animalia, Chordata, Reptilia, Testudines, Cryptodira, Testudinidae, Astrochelys radiata
Conformer because they are cold-blooded and their body temperature depends on their environment
Dormancy because they don’t travel and they remain in one general area
Generalist because they can live in dry habitats as well as wetter habitats
Consumer because they get their food energy by eating other organisms
Herbivore because their diet consists mostly of plants
Niche: Radiated tortoises are critically endangered because of poachers in their home in Madagascar. They eat mostly vegetation and are preyed on by animals like snakes and birds of prey. They have adapted to have a hard shell to hid in for defense. The shell is colored with brown and yellow streaks, which can aid in blending in with dry grass. These tortoises live in dry habitats like savannas but may also live in more tropical areas.
